What benefits should I expect from therapy?

Therapy is a space for growth, reflection, and healing. While everyone’s journey is unique, many clients report feeling more self-aware, empowered, and emotionally regulated over time. Therapy can help you develop healthier coping strategies, improve relationships, gain clarity around your values, and create a more intentional, fulfilling life.

That said, progress doesn’t always happen overnight. Like any meaningful change, therapy takes time, consistency, and willingness to explore both strengths and challenges. There may be moments of discomfort—but these moments often lead to the deepest breakthroughs.

Our goal is to support you through those ups and downs, helping you feel seen, heard, and capable of creating real change in your life.

How will my first therapy session go?

Your first session is all about getting to know you in a way that feels supportive—not stressful. My goal is to keep things casual, collaborative, and non-intimidating. You don’t need to prepare anything or have the “perfect” words—just show up as you are.

During this session, we’ll complete a biopsychosocial assessment, which is a structured way for me to get a full picture of your life. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, your goals, current challenges, important relationships, and relevant life experiences. This helps us lay the foundation for a treatment plan that’s personalized and meaningful to you.

Think of it as the first step in building a working relationship—where your story is heard and your needs are the focus.

What’s your cancellation policy?

We understand that unexpected things come up. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. You can do this by contacting your therapist directly or through the client portal.

As a courtesy, we allow one missed or late-cancelled session without penalty. After that, a $50 fee will apply for late cancellations or no-shows, as these cannot be billed to insurance.

Repeated missed sessions may result in discharge from the practice, as consistent attendance is important for therapeutic progress.

Will you share the details of what we discuss in therapy?

Everything you share in therapy is kept confidential and protected by HIPAA regulations. Before your first session, you’ll review and sign an informed consent form that outlines your rights to privacy and the limits of confidentiality. I will never share your information without your written permission through a Release of Information form.

However, there are a few legal exceptions where I may be required to break confidentiality, such as threat of harm to yourself or others.

These exceptions follow state mandated reporting laws. If you have any concerns or questions about confidentiality, I’ll be happy to walk through them with you before or during our work together.

How do virtual sessions work?

Virtual therapy is a convenient and effective way to access support from the comfort of your own space. Research shows that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many clients.

To make the most of your virtual session, you'll need a stable internet connection, a smart device (phone, tablet, or computer), and a private space that is free from disruptions. Having a safe space for sessions is essential so you can communicate freely with your therapist.

We’ve completed specialized teletherapy training to ensure you feel fully supported and engaged—just as if we were in the same room.
